Peer Feedback: Evaluation Posts

From the peer feedback regarding my draft of the evaluation posts, although I make clear links with real media products, I understand that I need to make my posts more supervisual, as well as including more detail into my music video - referring to the conventions of it, and then comparing it to my advertisement and digipak. Also, from the peer feedback, they have advised that I refer back to theories learnt during the research stages, and also go into further detail about specific technologies.

Q2) How effective is the combination of your main product and your ancillary texts?

The links between my music video, advertisement and digipak can be see in the video below:

Q1) In what ways does your media product use, develop and challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Below are comparisons between my music video and real media texts of how my music video uses, develops and challenges conventions:

My music video follows the convention of using moving camera shots. By using moving shots it adds pace to the video, as well as making it more interesting to watch. This convention can be seen in Bastille's 'Pompeii' video:

One of the main conventions we have challenged is the feature of females in indie-rock videos. Therefore, by going against this convention, we are challenging the stereotype that has been so frequently used. Although many indie-rock videos don't include women, in my music video we do, but we also further develop this idea by allowing the female to have quite a major role as she plays the guitarist. This is compared to 'Runaways' - The Killers, in which we can see that all the band are male, and no female is featured throughout the video:

Another convention used in my music video is the focus on the instruments. With the indie-rock genre, including the instruments within a music video appears to be an integral part of a music video; as many close-ups of instruments can be seen within many indie-rock videos, representing the importance of the instruments, as well as reminding audiences how the sound is always the priority for indie-rock videos. Below shows clips of my video and 'I Will Wait' - Mumford and Sons:

Peer Assessment: Music Video

Above is the assessment sheet completed by one of my peers based on my music video.

The www's include:

  • The editing of the shots works well with the music.
  • The setting of the music video is individual.
  • The use of graphic-matches.

The ebi's include:
  • Include a change in location.
  • Include more interesting close-up shots.
  • More of an enthusiastic performance from the actors.
  • To sharpen the editing.

From this peer assessment, my group have achieved a B grade. To improve this, we need to include our concept in the music video - which will be set in a different location, therefore corresponding to one of our ebi's. As well as this, during re-shoots we can film more interesting and exciting shots, therefore ensuring that both the performance and shot types are improved.

First Draft of Music Video

Here is the first draft of our music video. It is not finished however, as we have yet to include our concept in the video, as well as another location for the performance shots.
