'In The Sun' Remake

As a class, our task was to recreate She & Him's song 'In The Sun'. While filming, we all had the chance to act as a director and cinematographer, then during editing the video, we had to go in pairs.

'In The Sun' - She & Him:

Our version of the video:

What did we do when filming that made it easier to edit and more professional?
- The use of storyboards meant we were able to follow the 'She & Him' video without their version playing in front of us. The detail of timing, any camera movement/angle, and any additional information about set, props, and cast, meant we were able to recreate the video quite accurately. During editing this helped because, by checking our storyboards, it ensured we had the shots in the right order, the correct props and set, and the correct timing of each shot.
- By the directors deciding to do a re-take of a shot, this meant there were multiple versions of the same shot, meaning that when editing, we were able to choose the one that closer matched the She & Him version, ensuring our video was as accurate as possible.
- When filming, the cast responded when the director asked for "quiet on set", and then "action" and "cut". As well as this, the cinematographers ensured they left enough "roll-in" and "roll-out" time on the shots - this helped during editing as it meant that shots could be cut in the appropriate place to match the syncing of the music.
- While filming, the music was playing outside of the shot on a CD player - allowing lip-syncing and dancing to be in time with the music. This helped in the editing process as it meant shots could be matched easily with the audio that had been imported.

What did we do when filming that made it harder to edit and less professional?
- When using our storyboards to edit, Scott and I realised that a particular shot hadn't been filmed, because of this, we had to cut and use shots we had already used - meaning shots were repeated in order to keep the timing right, this can make the video appear less professional.
- The framing of particular shots made it harder due to some of the casts heads/bodies being left out of the frame. When editing, it made some of the shots look unprofessional.
- The lip-syncing on some of the shots made editing harder, because some of the lip-syncing was hard to recognise on our version, and therefore hard to match up with the She & Him audio.
- While filming, we used the shool library as one of the locations, however, the location was quite small, therefore the cast appear quite confined in the space - making it look quite unprofessional.

WWW's:
- Everyone followed their storyboards - ensuring our version was as closely matched to the original video as possible.
- All the cast put effort in to learn the dance, meaning they were ready on the day of filming.
- The props/locations/costumes were organised quickly, and match the She & Him video.
- We all worked well as a group, ensuring everyone knew what they were doing under the guidance of the production managers: Dayna and Sophie.

EBI's:
- The lip-syncing was clearer, as this would have made editing easier.
- We were more organised in time-keeping, as this would have meant we wouldn't of had to finish filming on another day, meaning we would of had more time to edit.
- The whole cast acted with facial expressions that can be seen in the She & Him video, in which the cast appear enthusiastic.
- None of the casts heads/bodies were cut out of the shot due to framing.
